Northbound I-75 to 9 Mile Road Ramp Closure Saturday
On Saturday, September 23, crews will close the northbound I-75 ramp to 9 Mile road, as well as one lane of the northbound service drive between the 9 Mile Ramp and John R. Road. This closure will be in place through 6:00 p.m. for crews to work in the area.
I-75 South of I-696 to North of 13 Mile Road Flyover – August 2023
In the latest flyover, you get a great sneak peek at the progress of the project between I-696 and 13 Mile Road. Teams are working hard to get elements of the project wrapped up ahead of opening the roadway and ramps prior to the 2023 Labor Day weekend.
Take a look at the progress of the 11 Mile Road ramps to and from southbound I-75, the new two-way service drive north of Gardenia Avenue, and progress at the 12 Mile Road diverging diamond interchange, to name a few items.
In addition, you can see the damage to the roadway just north of Lincoln Avenue where there was a tanker crash in early August. Crews will begin repairs of that area following the holiday weekend.
Drainage Tunnel Preparing to Accept Water
Now that the tunnel boring machine (TBM) reached the Meyers Avenue Pump Station and is being removed from the ground, crews will begin completing work on the drop shafts throughout the corridor and finalize the tunnel drainage system so it can begin accepting water.
We have put together this graphic to show what will happen when rain hits the roadway and makes its way to and through the drainage tunnel. It is important to emphasize that the tunnel is not yet accepting water, as work to finalize the tunnel and pump station will continue throughout 2023.
Tunnel Excavation has reached the Meyers Avenue Shaft! (June 2023)
We are happy to announce that the tunnel boring machine (TBM) has reached the Meyers Avenue Shaft (southern endpoint). Check out this video of the TBM breaking through the side of the Meyers Avenue Shaft.
Over the next few weeks, crews will begin removing the TBM from the Meyers Avenue Shaft. Once the TBM and its equipment are removed, crews will begin completing the drop shaft work south of I-696 and finalizing the tunnel drainage system so it can begin accepting water. This work is expected to continue through the end of 2023.
